When it comes to winterizing the garden in autumn, many gardeners like to use secateurs because they want to cut back their plants.
Many plants get new shoots in autumn
Cutting back plants is right on the one hand, but it can also be wrong on the other. Because many plants form new shoots as early as autumn, from which they then turn green and bloom in spring. If you are not sure or do not recognize the young shoots, then keep your hands off and rather leave the plant.
Plants don't always need to be trimmed
If you keep your hands off the plants, the flowers will benefit anyway. Firstly, the plants have better frost protection, secondly, they look beautiful in the winter garden and are also an ornament if the garden does not actually look very attractive. And thirdly, many plants or their seeds serve as food for birds. If you prefer to tidy up these plants in the spring, then there is still enough time for this. It is not absolutely necessary that you do this work in the fall.
