It sounds strange, but damping-off is real. This mainly affects young plants that have been sown and that are just a few centimeters tall as seedlings.
It doesn't matter what kind of plants it is, anyone can get damping-off. Soil fungi are to blame.
One should actually think that plants that one wants to grow in seed pots are particularly protected, but one would be wrong. Because such fungi can spread, especially in containers made of recyclable materials such as egg cartons or cardboard. Once this has happened, even he althy-looking plants are affected. When the first plants fall over and die, the rest cannot be saved.
Remedy only two remedies can create here:
- On the one hand Hygiene, that means you should rather use plastic growing containers, which you treat with hot water before planting.
- Secondly, you should pay attention to the optimal germination temperature and of course regular but not too much moisture. This way dampening off will no longer affect your seedlings.
