Dogs are loyal companions and for many also true friends. Nevertheless, they like to tear out. But not if you dog-proof your garden fence.
House, yard and garden are a true paradise for four-legged friends. Here they can move freely, sniff and explore the beautiful nature with all its smells. But what if Bello's thirst for discovery is so great that it hardly keeps him on the property? Then it can quickly become dangerous. Because furry friends who have not learned that they are not allowed to leave the farm could sense “freedom” and run away. With a bit of luck, your four-legged friend will come home on their own at some point. Of course, the whole thing could turn out differently. A bad idea, isn't it? It is therefore very important that you dog-proof your garden.
Prevention is therefore better in principle than aftercare. What is meant by this is that we advise you to provide the entire property with a suitable garden fence. Because not every model successfully keeps pets from leaving the property. However, with which models you are on the safe side and what you should consider during installation, we have summarized below.
Advantages of a fenced property
According to Statista, the dog was the most popular pet among Germans in 2022 with almost 10.7 million owners. Among them the most popular breed: the German Shepherd Dog. But quite apart from which breed the Germans like best and which not so much: really everyone wants to protect their animal as well as possible. In apartments, that may not be too much of a challenge. However, when Bello is allowed to move freely on the property, things are quite different. Then fencing is a must. This even has several advantages:

What type of fence is best?
Now we would like to introduce you to a few types of fences and their advantages and disadvantages for pet owners.
❍ Rod Mat Fence:
The so-called bar mat fence is absolutely recommendable. This is a metal garden fence that is weatherproof and extremely robust. Because with a rod mat fence, the fence panels consist of horizontal and vertical wire rods that are welded once or twice. Animals should therefore not be able to disappear through the gaps. Especially not if you embed the wire mesh fence into the ground.
The great thing: rod mat fences are available in different heights. It is therefore not possible to tear out over the fence. On top of that, the construction is also very easy. Because the individual fence elements are simply mounted on stable fence posts. When buying a bar mat fence, make absolutely sure that it does not have any sharp elements.
If you like it a little more unusual, you can also use so-called decorative mats, which make the fence a real eye-catcher. ❍ Chain Link Fence:
The cheaper version of the bar mat fence is the wire mesh fence. For small and, above all, relaxed fellows who don't let themselves be disturbed by strange four-legged friends, a chain link fence is completely sufficient. Or if you only need a fence to make the property line clearly recognizable. Nevertheless, pay attention to the wire thickness and mesh size when buying.
❍ Wooden garden fence:
The wooden fence is very popular among property owners, as the wood blends in perfectly with the natural appearance of the garden. On top of that, wooden fences are also very stable. The distances between the wooden slats should only be as small as possible so that your furry friend cannot squeeze through the slats and tear out. Also anchor the fence firmly to the ground if you are going to build the wooden fence yourself.
The only disadvantage of wooden fences: they require a little more maintenance. Exactly means that you have to regularly paint the garden fence and remove algae. If that doesn't bother you, you will be able to enjoy the wooden fence for a long time with the right care.
