Bitters are really available in a wide variety of variants. A very special variant, which is interesting for everyone who likes to prepare liqueurs themselves, is liqueur made from Cola herb. Also known as southernwood, this plant has been used for centuries as an herb to treat indigestion and gallbladder problems. After being forgotten for a long time, it is now back in fashion and is now available again in many garden centers. The shoots and young leaves of southernwood smell and taste like cola, which is why the plant is also called cola herb. And the great thing: You can use it to make great Cola-Herb syrup, Cola-Herb lemonade and a so-called stomach bitter yourself.How to make cola herb liqueur yourself
First of all: depending on how much sugar you add, the Cola-Kraut-Likör tastes more like bitters or a mild liqueur. If you want to use it as a home remedy for stomach problems, then be careful with the sugar - if you want to enjoy it as a liqueur, you can add a little more sugar.

If you want to prepare a tasty herbal liqueur with Cola-Kraut, you only need a few things and a little time. For Cola Herb Liqueur you need:
- according to taste a handful of shoot tips and young southernwood leaves
- other herbs such as mugwort, dandelion, etc. as desired
- a bottle of Korn, vodka or similar with at least 38 percent alcohol
- approx. 250 g sugar (brown sugar, candy or honey)
➤ Preparation:
Fill one third of the herb or herbs into a wide-necked container. Then add the sugar and fill up with the alcohol. Seal the jar and place in a dark place at room temperature. Now the batch is stored for about three to four weeks and only shaken from time to time so that the sugar can be distributed well.
Once the three to four weeks have passed, strain the liqueur and taste it. the liquorthen pour into clean bottles.
Little tip:
You can drink the liqueur right now, but it tastes even better if you let it mature in the bottle for a while.
