Anonim

They look like tomatoes and grow on trees: we're talking about persimmons. We would like to introduce you to the five tastiest varieties.

As with so many types of fruit, persimmon trees come in many different varieties. If you live in a region with a mild climate, you can even harvest fruit from your own tree. Frost-resistant varieties are therefore particularly well suited for cultivation. Here we present five persimmon varieties that you can count on with a good yield and tasty fruits.

❶ "Tipo" variety: Large fruits, high yield

The tree is hardy down to -19°C. The Tipo variety is self-pollinating. There are fruits in the first and second year after purchase. Persimmons of the Tipo variety are extremely large, weighing up to 260 grams, and taste very tender. In Italy, the tree is one of the main suppliers of persimmons. It doesn't need any special care. Harvesting of the persimmons begins relatively early, you can pick up the first persimmons as early as September.

❷ Variety "Rojo Brillante": Tasty fruits (persimmons)

The Rojo Brillante variety is mainly cultivated in Spain. You can expect the first fruits about one to two years after purchase. The tree is hardy to -18°C and therefore also suitable for local cultivation. The persimmon tree pollinates itself, but is also suitable for cross-pollination of other persimmons. The fruits can be harvested from mid-September/beginning of October and weigh around 180 grams. The taste is excellent.

❸ Variety "Vanilla Persimmon"

The vanilla persimmon variety is a very tasty new variety. The medium-sized fruits weighing around 150 grams convince with a scent and taste reminiscent of Bourbon vanilla. The flesh of the ripe fruit is very sweet and juicy. The tree is frost-resistant down to -19°C, the harvest begins relatively early, around September, depending on the location. The vanilla persimmon tree is self-pollinating. The first fruits appear about a year or two after you put the persimmon tree in the garden.

❹ "Hana Fuyu" variety

The "Hana Fuyu" breed comes from Japan. The variety bears plenty, but is somewhat sensitive to frost. The tolerable winter temperature is at-16°C. The coloring of the leaves is particularly beautiful in autumn. The fruits weigh around 220 grams and can be harvested from September/October on the early bearing tree. The tree is self-pollinating.

❺ Variety "Meader"

If cold tolerance is particularly important, a persimmon tree of the "Meader" variety is the right choice. Temperatures below -20 degrees are tolerated. The fruits are a bit smaller, but convince with a particularly intense and fruity taste.

Apart from the good taste of the fruit: a persimmon tree is always an asset to the garden. From spring to late summer it is very decorative to look at with foliage and flowers. When only the fruit is hanging on the bare branches in the autumn garden (persimmons shed their leaves very early), the tree is an attractive eye-catcher.
