WPC decking boards have found a lot of fans in recent years. Given the many advantages, this is not surprising.

Terrace and balcony surfaces are now covered with a wide variety of materials, with everything from tiles to natural stone slabs to wood coverings. Appearance and utility have meanwhile become equally important to consumers. At the same time, the terrace should also be easy to walk on and the covering should be as easy to care for as possible.

The WPC decking boards, which have only been available on the market for a few years, can easily cover all of these needs. The term WPC stands for Wood Plastic Composition, a wood-plastic composite material that is produced from a wood and polymer compound. WPC decking boards therefore offer several advantages, which we would like to explain to you in more detail below.

An overview of the advantages of WPC decks

» Advantage No. 1 - ecological aspect:

All plastic components used are usually subject to first use (no recycling materials), which in turn guarantees high weather resistance and dimensional stability of the individual decking boards. They are also completely recyclable!

» Advantage No. 2 - large color selection:

For some time now, WPC decking has not only been available in natural-looking wood colours, but can also be purchased in special colors such as upbeat red, blue, green, yellow, etc.

» Advantage no. 3 - planks are easy to lay:

WPC decking boards can be laid very easily, as they are mostly offered in a tongue and groove design (click method). In some cases, it is even laid without an additional substructure (laid floating), insofar as it is a flat, slightly sloping terrace floor. For any unevenness in the terrace surface, however, the manufacturers also provide a wide variety of compensating accessories, such as rubber pads, substructure rails, compensating swivel feet and the like.

The individual panels are also only processed with conventional wooden tools when layingsawing and drilling. The first and last board of a covering is always fixed by screwing it to the substructure.

Important: Do not lay WPC decking boards directly on the ground!

Laying the floorboards directly on the ground (wet factor) should be avoided as a matter of principle. In order to minimize or completely eliminate any waterlogging that may occur on a terrace, you should also insert appropriate drainage elements in the entire terrace covering or underlay the covering with a gravel/grit covering that is about 10 centimeters thick and as fine as possible. It is best to underlay this grit covering with fleece (tip for reading: garden fleece: 3 tips for use) to prevent unwanted weed growth between the floorboard coverings.

» Advantage no. 4 - beautiful finishing edges available:

The specialist trade also has numerous edgings for freely laid patio areas ready to maintain an attractive appearance. However, you should take into account that you only have to straighten the actual edge of the laid floorboards at the end of the work with a continuous cut (use a hand-held circular saw).

» Advantage No. 5 - easy-care material:

One of the great advantages of WPC decking is that it can be easily cleaned at any time with a damp cloth and cleaning agents approved by the manufacturer, without losing its shape and/or colour. Most synthetic decking boards can even be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner if they are very dirty!

In addition, high-quality WPC floorboards no longer require any additional care, such as painting or glazing. This is because the extremely barefoot-friendly coverings (note the quality seal) - no matter what wood look or color you choose - are crack-resistant, frost-resistant and bleach-resistant.

» Advantage No. 6 - no infestation with mold or pests:

Mould, vermin and fungal infestation is almost impossible with WPC decking.
