Lambs lettuce is fresh, delicious and he althy. So that you can start cultivation earlier, we recommend bringing it forward. Our instructions tell you how.
Many home gardeners prefer to grow plants indoors before transplanting them later into the garden. This is also possible with lettuce, such as lamb’s lettuce. This has the advantage that you can start cultivating lamb's lettuce much earlier. In addition, there is also an advantage over weeds, which always grow in the bed.
You can grow lamb's lettuce either indoors or in a greenhouse. If you can cover the cold frame completely, a preculture is also possible in it. The easiest way to bring it forward is on the windowsill. And how exactly that works, we would like to explain to you below.
You will need:
- Corn Salad Seeds
- Cultivation Pots
- Cultivation soil
Tip: As an alternative to commercial potting soil, you can also make your own plant substrate. All you have to do is mix sifted compost with regular garden soil and some sand.
Instructions for growing lamb's lettuce
» Step 1:
First you have to fill the pots with the substrate. Since a plant will not grow from every seed, you should then place three to five seeds in each pot. There should not be more than five seeds, otherwise the lettuce will germinate too much.
You just have to put the seeds on the ground and then press them very lightly into the substrate with your fingers. But not too deep!
» Step 2:
The germination time is now between 10 and 14 days. During this time, you must make sure that the soil is evenly moist.
» Step 3:
After about four weeks, the seedlings are ready to move outside. By then, the first two pairs of leaves should definitely have formed. However, you may only place the young plants in the garden after the frost phase, i.e. after the ice saints. Simply take the seedlings out of the pot and plant them in the bed.
Important: When planting, make sure that you plant a distance of about 20Maintain centimeters between the individual plants and a row spacing of around 40 centimetres.
