Goldlack is a fairly easy-care perennial that impresses with both its flowers and its scent. Tips on location and propagation here.

Gold lacquer - origin and homeland
Gold lacquer was originally discovered in southern Europe. It prefers to grow near the Mediterranean, but was soon introduced to the wider parts of Europe. The wild form is relatively uncomplicated in its growth and has only few demands on its environment. Among other things, the flowers appear in cracks in walls or between curbs. Already in the Middle Ages, gold lacquer was very popular in the garden. This was not only related to its appearance and scent. It was said to have healing powers. Anyone who listens to songs from the time will read about the “wallflower” more often. This means the gold lacquer.

Planting gold lacquer - the right location
If you want to achieve a pleasant scent and an impressive picture in the garden with the gold lacquer, a sunny location is the best choice. This allows the scent to develop particularly intensively. Well drained soil supports the growth of the perennial.
It is also ideal to sow in areas where various early bloomers are planted. For example, the gold lacquer can get along very well with daffodils or tulips as neighbors and blooms at about a similar time. If the planting takes place in a bucket, then it is important that in the bucketStandard soil (mixture of peat and lime-free clay) is used.
This is important for planting

- Lacquer will be planted in autumn. Here either the seeds can be set or young plants can be brought into the bed. Just don't let it freeze.
- The plants are about 10 cm deep in the ground, the plant spacing is 30 cm.
- Furrows are made for sowing.
- The location should be in full sun if possible.
The plants should be shortened when they reach a growth height of 15 cm. After the wallflower has bloomed, it should be removed from the bed.
The need for water is moderate. Since the plant is in full sun, care should be taken to keep the soil slightly moist. Fertilization can also be done once a month.
Propagate gold lacquer by cuttings
Propagation by cuttings usually takes place after flowering. Cut off shoots about 10 cm long and remove the bottom leaves. Put the shoots in potting soil, water them and cover everything with a plastic bag. The new gold lacquer plants can then be planted out in autumn.
» Important: Lavender is one of the poisonous plants, always work with gloves.
Recognize diseases and pests on gold lacquer
Lacquer is relatively resistant to diseases and pests. Nevertheless, it can happen that an infestation with gray mold occurs. Coatings form on the leaves, which have a gray color and appear velvety. Wilt disease can also affect the plant. In this case you can see that the leaves are wilting for no apparent reason.
It can sometimes happen that a clubroot appears on the gold lacquer. This is a disease of the plants in which the roots in particular are severely damaged. Gray or blue-green leaves develop.
Gold lacquer as a medicinal plant
Goldlack is primarily a decorative perennial for the garden. In naturopathy, however, gold lacquer is repeatedly described as a medicinal plant. The plant is said to have a heart-regulating and diuretic effect. However, it is expressly advised against using parts of the plant as a remedy, as the risk of poisoning is too great. If you want to use gold lacquer, you should consult a doctor or pharmacist.
