A garden isn't just for planting. It should also be used for recreation. So why not build a sauna in your own garden?

When it's dingy and cold outside, the number of visitors to the public saunas increases enormously. After all, we all know that sweating is he althy and strengthens the immune system. But that's not all. It's also the comforting warmth and time to relax that draws us more and more into the sauna.

But why always go to the public sauna when you can build one yourself? It doesn't even have to be done indoors. A sauna also fits perfectly in the garden. After all, there are many pretty sauna systems that are already being offered as ready-made kits in different sizes and styles for the garden. Some of these saunas look like rustic garden sheds, while others look like pretty pavilions or conservatories.

Tips for building a garden sauna

» Tip 1 - Obtain a building permit:

Before building a garden sauna, you must obtain a building permit from the responsible building authority. Many manufacturers also offer to take over this building permit process as part of their services, including submission of a corresponding building plan.

» Tip 2 - Select sauna house & size:

Garden saunas that are fully equipped are ideal. In addition to the sauna, this also includes a shower, a relaxation room, possibly in combination with a changing room, a toilet, etc. This way you can use the sauna in the garden all year round. However, the space required for this should be at least 25 square meters or more.

Log houses with a rustic look that have a sauna room built into them are extremely popular. Usually provided with an additional anteroom, in which there is a shower with toilet and a shelf for clothes and towels. Such log houses are already available from around 5 square meters. However, if you would like to have an integrated relaxation area (approx. 2 loungers), you should assume a size of approx. 15 square meters or more.

Important:

Log houses always have high-quality glazes and impregnations (against fungal and mold growth, etc.) inside and outside (reading tip: summer house newdelete - step-by-step instructions). With some combination preparations, however, caution is required here (clogging of the wood pores)!

» Tip 3 - Connection lines:

Before building a garden sauna, you must ensure that there is at least one adequate electrical connection and a corresponding water connection to the building (observe frost depths).

Furthermore, larger systems also need an associated sewage system, e.g. to be able to drain shower and toilet water. The type of heating system used later should also play a role when laying the connection lines.

» Tip 4 - Foundation:

A garden sauna should always be built on a solid foundation in order to protect the floor from moisture. A completely concreted floor slab is suitable for this, or the use of smaller concrete slabs (individual elements) or paving stones made of concrete.

» Tip 5 - outdoor area:

You can also combine your garden sauna with an appropriate outdoor facility, including a shower, a plunge pool, a resting place, etc. Generously designed wooden terrace areas in front of a garden sauna also have a very pleasant effect. The combination of sauna and swimming pool is also ideal. This is how you create a real wellness oasis in the garden.
