Preparing the classic potato gratin

» Step 1:

First you need to peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices. A vegetable slicer is best for this. On the one hand you get even slices and on the other you save time.

» Step 2:

Grease the casserole dish with a little butter to prevent the potatoes from sticking later.

» Step 3:

Now layer the fine potato slices in the mold like roof tiles.

» Step 4:

Then season thePotatoes with pepper, s alt and nutmeg, otherwise the gratin will later become too bland. You can also spread a little garlic over the gratin. If you want to vary the gratin a bit, you can now add bacon or ham. You can also add broccoli, mushrooms, cauliflower or tomatoes for refinement.

» Step 5:

Next, mix the cream and milk together. It is also possible to skip the milk and use pure cream. This liquid is simply poured over the remaining ingredients.

» Step 6:

Sprinkle everything evenly with the grated cheese. It is purely a matter of taste whether you choose a mild cheese like Gouda or a spicy cheese like Emmental. Of course, with a spicy cheese, the dish gets a more intense taste.

» Step 7:

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees for top and bottom heat, and to 180 degrees for circulating air. The gratin is now in the oven for about 35 to 40 minutes. It's ready when a golden brown crust has formed on it.

Done! Bon appétit!!!
