You like it exotic? Then bring the jungle home! As? By making your balcony exotic and like in the jungle. It's not that hard.

Close your eyes and imagine that you are in the middle of the jungle. What do you see there? Lots of exotic plants and animals, wood and softly shimmering light? Well then you are on the right track in terms of design. After all, what goes better with a jungle-style balcony than lots of exotic plants? Maybe a real parrot, but let's not overdo it. With the right plants here and a little decoration there, you can transform your balcony into a small jungle in no time at all. We'll tell you how.

This is how the balcony becomes a jungle

❶ Flooring:

Let's first look at the floor on the balcony. Ideally, this should consist of natural materials. It is recommended, for example, to lay wooden balcony tiles. They exude a natural atmosphere and radiate warmth. Of course, you can also opt for WPC planks or planks made of real wood. Anything goes here.

If you don't want to make a big fuss about the floor covering, it's enough if you spread out a suitable outdoor carpet on the balcony. A carpet made of raffia, sisal or seagrass, for example, is suitable. Of course, you can also make the whole thing modern and opt for a colorful carpet that picks up on the jungle theme. Or for a carpet in the trendy ethnic style.

❷ Balcony furniture:

When it comes to furniture for your balcony, you should also opt for wooden chairs, sofas and the like. But rattan and bamboo furniture also go perfectly with the jungle look. I found the »Premium« lounge sofa with textile mesh on tchibo.de, which would really go perfectly with the jungle look. Of course, there are also plenty of other pieces of furniture that fit the theme. For example, I find a peacock throne made of rattan particularly beautiful and, above all, unusual. It gives the jungle look something majestic.

If youIf you opt for colored pieces of furniture or upholstery, then it is best to choose natural tones or you can opt for the complete opposite. So speak for fabrics in yellow, pink or orange, because exotic flowers usually bloom in these strong colors.

❸ Plants:

• Combine shades of green and tall and low plants:

Probably the most important element on a jungle-style balcony are plants. Only they let viewers immediately recognize the topic of the balcony design. And here you can really turn it up and place a wide variety of plants on the balcony. First of all, however, it is important that you know that it is very advantageous to work with different shades of green. In this way you create more optical depth, which makes your jungle appear even more alive. You should also combine high-growing and low-growing plants. This has a varied effect and perfectly closes gaps between the plants. Because the closer they are, the better.

• Place exotic plants in planters:

Now we come to the plants themselves. Here it is best to always use planters, because exotic plants may look beautiful, but unfortunately they are not always hardy. In order to protect them from the icy temperatures in winter, you should always bring the non-hardy plants indoors during the cold season. And that works best when you have planted the exotics in the bucket. Of course, there are also exotic plants that are hardy. The table below gives you an overview of which plants fit the jungle feeling and whether they are hardy or not:

The plants that are hardy should still be protected from the cold temperatures. You can do this by wrapping the tubs in bubble wrap and placing them on styrofoam plates.

• Use multiple levels:

Of course, the exotic plants don't just have to stand on the ground. It's even better if you use multiple levels. This is how you get that jungle feeling very close. So feel free to also plant the railing and use hanging baskets or shelves to plant the balcony walls. For example, hanging plants look great on the walls.

You can also make a jungle decoration out of flowers yourself and thus provide small highlights on the balcony. For example, I really like this DIY guide from 1000gutegruende.de.

❹ Lighting:

Of course, suitable lighting should not be missing on the jungle balcony. The only problem: there are usually no power sources on the balcony. So you have to rely on garden lighting without electricity. Here are some ideas:

• Solar Lamps:

In the jungle, due to the dense vegetation, it is usually the case that only a little sunlight shines through the plants here and there. And that is exactly what you should focus on. It is best to place a few solar lamps between the plants. The light then shines through the leaves, which looks particularly beautiful.

• Lanterns:

Even lanterns look really good on the jungle balcony. You can buy these or you can make them yourself. This works particularly well with serviette technology, for example. All you have to do is look for matching napkins and you're good to go. I found instructions on how to use serviette technique on wood and glass at www.talu.de.

• Fairy Lights:

If you have a power outlet on the balcony, fairy lights are also a good source of light. optic althey should ideally match the jungle style. Fairy lights with leaves and/or exotic flowers would of course be ideal. Again, you can do this yourself. I found instructions for a very pretty chain of flower lights on www.youtube.com, for example.

❺ Decoration:

If you like, you can of course also add a little decoration. How about, for example, parrots or other exotic animals sitting between the plants? That looks great, doesn't it? Just let your imagination run wild.
