To the chagrin of many homeowners, the moss does not stop at the house walls. As a rule, only the walls that are in the shade for most of the day are affected. But trees and bushes in the immediate vicinity of the house can also lead to this problem. At first you will see a light green discoloration on the wall of the house, which gets darker and darker over time. If the plaster is also porous, then the moss can also spread in fine cracks.
Small patches of moss on the wall are certainly no big deal, but if the network stretches, the visual appearance is severely impaired. As soon as you have noticed moss on the house facade, it is always important to find out the cause first. If moisture is the reason, you should urgently think about a renovation, because otherwise moisture can penetrate inside and promote the development of mold there. Tips for effective moss removal
➤ Tip 1 - Use a pressure washer:
When removing, you always have to consider the material. Removing the moss on the house wall is very easy, for example with a high-pressure cleaner. Always blast the wall from the top down, so the moss doesn't fly all over the place. You can then apply an algaecide to prevent the moss from forming again. Warning:
You should definitely avoid using a high-pressure cleaner on plastered facades, as this could cause them to crumble. In the case of a facade clad with clinker, however, the use of a high-pressure cleaner is definitely recommended.
➤ Tip 2 - use algaecide:
Should thehigh-pressure cleaners do not achieve good results, you can also remove the moss with a so-called algaecide (available here, for example). It not only kills algae, but also moss. It even kills mold. And this is how you use the algaecide correctly:
Step 1:
First soak the affected areas on the house wall with a little water.
Step 2:
Then take a brush with nylon bristles and clean the wall thoroughly.
Step 3:
Only then should you apply the algaecide according to the instructions on the packaging.
Step 4:
After the specified exposure time, you must then treat the wall again with a brush and clear water.
➤ Tip 3 - use potassium permanganate:
Potassium permanganate is actually a wound disinfectant (available in pharmacies), but you can also use it to combat moss, as it causes oxidation and the moss dies. How to use potassium permanganate correctly:
Step 1:
You needed a large pot that could hold at least five liters of water. While boiling water in it, mix 500 grams of cornstarch into a paste.
Step 2:
When the water is boiling, remove the pot from the heat and add about 100 grams of soda, 8 grams of potassium permanganate and the cornstarch mash. Then boil the liquid while stirring constantly.
Important:
Do not add too much potassium permanganate to the compound, as the agent can stain heavily. In the case of very light facades, it is better to mix the mixture without potassium permanganate and apply it to the house wall. It's still very effective.
Step 3:
Fill the mass into a bucket and then scrub the house wall with it. Then leave the mixture on for at least four hours.
Step 4:
After the exposure time, take a high-pressure cleaner and spray the house wall with it. Alternatively, the garden hose will work if you set the jet as hard as possible.
