It doesn't always have to be apples, pears or plums. The fig is also a fruit that thrives well in German gardens and is also very tasty. Read how to grow figs here.
It is best to choose hardy plants
There are many different varieties. If you want to plant figs in the garden, you should get hardy plants like the Paradiso or the Violetta. They can withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees. However, it can also be said with these varieties that it would always be better to bring the figs inside in winter. A conservatory would be best. Here, all other figs withstand the cold weather and are stored at temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees. Therefore, figs should be kept in pots if possible. This is how they thrive best.
Fruits are still ripening
The fruits that are not yet ripe by the time you collect them can be left on the tree, they will continue to ripen. In winter, the figs are watered sparingly. Incidentally, figs should not be cut back in autumn, otherwise they will lose too much milky juice. This could harm the plants. A cut is only necessary in early summer on the new shoot tips.
