As dahlia bulbs grow larger over time, it is advisable that you divide dahlia bulbs.
Simply divide bulbs
Dahlias can easily be propagated by dividing the bulbs. However, this has the disadvantage that the plant no longer grows as large as it was before and also does not bloom as lavishly. Although the plant will get bigger again over time, you have to make cutbacks, especially at the beginning. This propagation method is also only suitable for large tubers. But there are other ways you can propagate dahlias.
Propagation via cuttings
Another possibility is propagation via cuttings. To do this, the first shoots that grow out of the dahlia tubers in early summer are cut off. These shoots are placed in potting soil and covered with a plastic hood. Do not forget to regularly air and water the young plant. Two to three weeks later, the first roots have formed. You should always cut off the tips of the shoots, this will help the dahlias to branch out better. When summer is just around the corner, dahlias can be planted out in the garden. This should happen mid to late May.
