Since a garden railroad is always admired, it should always be properly cared for. Read here how to remove weeds from the garden railroad.
Tip 1 - lay pond liner or garden fleece
The weed growth can be tricked within the route by giving it hardly a chance to get to the rails. For which, however, the rail substructure must be equipped accordingly. In this case, laying out a suitably cut pond liner or garden fleece is suitable, which keeps weeds away from the rails for years. Of course, plastic plates can also be used for this purpose, but they are extremely expensive to purchase.
Lay foil or fleece
» Step 1:
First, the width of the rail guide has to be calculated: Rail dimension + section fastening + about 1 centimeter allowance on both sides. The carpeting is marked and cut based on this calculated width value.
» Step 2:
When laying along the route, it is important to note that overlaps at the beginning and end of a sheet of film should be at least 5 to 10 centimeters. In curves, the film or fleece should be cut wider and slightly cut several times in the respective circle - the depth of the cut depends on the degree of the curve.
» Step 3:
The cut flaps are then lined up lightly and weighed down with stones. If possible, use the same stones that will later be used for the rail side attachment.
Tip 2 - selective weed removal
Sometimes only single weeds grow along the railway line. In other cases there is a veritable plague of weeds. Both variants can of course be countered with a garden rake, which is often extremely tedious for the garden railroad operator. It is then even more ideal to use a pressure sprayer that is filled with an environmentally friendly weed killer. The weeds can then be selectively sprayed with it.
After an average exposure of two to three days, thedead weeds can be easily removed by hand - wear gardening gloves to prevent any spray residue from attacking the skin. And make sure that the root is removed at the same time.
Tip 3 - Organic Weed Removal
On warm days, a home remedy is also perfect for removing weeds in the permeable rail area - do not use if pond liner, garden fleece or other building materials (e.g. plastic panels or paving stones) have been laid under the rails beforehand.
This is how some s alt is sprinkled on the weed plants or vinegar is drizzled over them. The sun burns the weeds and a downpour washes the surface clean again. If it doesn't rain, this process can easily be completed with a watering can. Then pull out the weed plant with the whole root if possible.
Warning:
It should be pointed out that with all weed killers, including s alt and vinegar, the currently applicable plant protection regulations must always be observed. Otherwise, improper or unauthorized use of these funds can lead to a fine being imposed by the responsible regulatory authority!
