Video: Carry out a germination test - this is how you find out whether the old seed is still germinable

With the gardening years, the small packets of seeds also accumulate. Bought a few here, got some as gifts there and collected their own seeds from the garden. Over the years, you not only lose track, but also the respective germination time. The expected germination time is written on the bags you buy, but even that is by no means a guarantee.

So that you don't get angry later when sowing because the seeds didn't germinate and valuable time was lost as a result, you should carry out a germination test in advance. Sandra from Grüneliebe shows how this works in detail in her YouTube video above. It's easy to understand and easy to follow. When doing this, it is important that you have several seeds of each variety available for the germination test.

» Result:
You or the seeds have achieved a satisfactory result when at least 50 percent have germinated. Then a certain germination is guaranteed. If the percentage is significantly lower, it is better to get new seeds.
