Hobby gardeners always like to try their hand at sowing seeds for planting vegetables or herbs. In the spring, it is eagerly sprinkled into the bed and soon it is noticed that little or nothing comes out. The seed doesn't sprout and there can be many reasons:
- Cold stimulus - Many seeds need cold to germinate. If this does not happen in spring, the seeds will not germinate either. The solution: put the seeds in the fridge until they germinate. Affected by this is, for example, wild garlic.
- Keep Animals Away - Seeds don't disappear from the ground by magic, but often by birds picking them out again. A small scarecrow or a clattering wind chime can help here.
- Rain Washes Away Seeds - Too much rain can wash seeds out of the ground. Foil to cover the seed can help here.
- The ground is too dry - This can also be a reason. Keep moist as seeds need a lot of water.
- Note the sowing times - If you think you can sow Chinese cabbage in March and peas in August, don't be surprised if nothing grows. The sowing times should be observed.
