If you would like to harvest your own radishes in autumn, then you should sow the radish seeds now. We explain what needs to be considered.
Radishes can be sown outdoors well into September. So if you still want fresh radishes from your own garden in October and November, you should sow them now.Make sure you choose fast-growing strains to make sure you get something this fall. Seeds are sown in one row at a depth of no more than a centimeter. The row spacing should be at least 20 centimeters.
Radishes need sun
Even though radishes usually grow in semi-shade, they need a lot of sun in autumn. If autumn is very sunny and dry, you can cover the plants with fleece. If the plants come up and are too close together, thin them out. As a result, the radishes develop better and become tastier.
Enemies of Radishes
The radish's natural enemy, the radish fly, no longer needs to be feared in autumn. Be sure to keep the soil moist at all times to keep the bulbs from becoming too spicy and woody.
