If there is a dry period in summer, it is important that you water the garden yourself. You should always follow our tips.
Grab the garden hose yourself!
A prolonged period of drought without significant rainfall can mean the death of your home garden. If there is no rain for several weeks, you as a hobby gardener can either watch the lawn go over the Jordan - or play rain god yourself.
Regardless of whether it's a lawn sprinkler or automatic garden irrigation: With the right equipment, the sensitive plant world can also survive the rainless period. However, simply watering the garden at will is the wrong approach, because too much watering at the wrong time is just as bad for the garden. You should therefore take these five tips to heart when watering your garden.
Water the garden - follow these 5 tips
Tip 1 - The right sprinkler:
You should already have the format of your lawn in mind when you buy it. Because mobile lawn sprinklers irrigate different areas depending on their design, for example circular or rectangular. Although the size of the area can usually be regulated, the shape is often not.
With the right sprinkler, edge areas are also easily accessible - and the veranda does not have to be watered involuntarily. Modern high-pressure cleaners are better suited for cleaning patio areas anyway.
Tip 2 - The right timing:
In general: it is better to start watering your garden too early than too late. Once the soil has completely dried out, any help will come too late. When the first blades of grass hang their heads, that should be the starting signal for the water supply. Gardeners have an advantage if they don't trim their lawn too short before summer: if the grass stays a little longer, it doesn't need water quite as quickly.
Tip 3 - The right time:
If you love your lawn, you should never turn on the lawn sprinkler in the blazing sun at midday. The lawn literally burns from the water droplets. In addition, only a little water actually reaches the ground: A large part has already evaporated in the sun beforehe can make an impact. Therefore, water early in the morning or late at night when the sun isn't as strong.
Tip 4 - The right amount:
For the amount of water, it is important to find the golden mean. In general, extensive watering is better for the lawn than several small ones. Each square meter should be supplied with at least 30 to 40 liters of water to allow sufficient moisture to penetrate the soil. However, your garden should not resemble a swamp afterwards, otherwise mold can form.
Tip 5 - The right source:
Water from the tap is nowhere near as good for the lawn as real rainwater. If you have the opportunity to collect precipitation in a rain barrel and do without the hard, chalky tap water, you should use the stored rain to water the garden. This saves money and protects the lawn. If you have a fountain in the garden, this is of course also a very good source for your garden irrigation.
A little additional tip:
If you pump the water out of a well for irrigation, you can simply switch the pump on and off via smartphone via a WLAN socket. And that even when you're on the go, so talk when you're on vacation, for example. This makes watering even easier.
