Celery is one of those vegetables that can be stored without problems. For an optimal result, the storage temperature is not entirely irrelevant.

Like most tuber and root vegetables, celeriac can easily be stored for months after it has been picked from the garden.

If you buy celery in the supermarket or at the market, you can even enjoy it for a while without losing quality if you store it properly. However, there are a few things to consider.

From the garden to the basement - short instructions

If you want to store the celery you have grown yourself over the winter, it is best to harvest the bulbs on a dry day. But harvesting is not the end of it. Before the celery goes into the cellar, you still have to do a few things.

➤ Step 1: Remove the leaves from the celery, then inspect the vegetables for damage and soft spots. You should put the sorted tubers aside and use them immediately. Only use tubers that are in perfect condition for storage.

➤ Step 2: The celery bulbs are not washed. Leave these for a few days until the soil clinging to the tubers falls off by itself.

➤ Step 3: Then place the tubers in a box with moistened sand or wrap them in newspaper. Only then put it in the box.

» Important! Storage requires high humidity on the one hand and cool temperatures of no more than 10°C on the other. A boiler room is therefore not suitable for storage.

Celery can also be stored in the refrigerator

If you don't have any celery in your garden, you can store celery in the fridge for a while. However, celery is better suited for this than celeriac. This is best frozen if you want to store it longer and don't need large quantities.

You can put celery in a plastic bag and seal it as airtight as possible before storing it in the fridge. It will keep like this for up to 2 weeks.
