Shards are lucky! So why not use broken glass as a garden decoration?! There are ideas and instructions for deploying the splinters here.
Colorful glass splinters have always exerted a great attraction on us humans, as they often look like small gems. And especially when the sun is reflected in them, their individual radiance is expressed particularly well. Which is why particularly robust glass splinters, specially made for outdoor use, are among the absolute favorites for decorating gardens.
The combination of light and glass makes the splinters shine effectively even in the dark. However, you should not confuse glass splinters with the smooth-surfaced glass pebbles offered in smaller quantities, which are usually only suitable for small decorative purposes and only to a limited extent for outdoor use. So we're talking rubble here, which is fine and fits into any garden.
In the text below we explain a few ideas on how to use the glass splinters in the garden and how to use them correctly.
Garden design ideas
➤ Idea no. 1 - embellish beds and tubs:
Glass splinters are now offered in a wide variety of sizes and almost all colors. Small splinters (grain size between 5 and 40 millimeters) are particularly suitable for decorating beds and tubs, with a requirement of around 40 to 50 kilograms of splinters per square meter (depending on the filling height and full-surface installation).
➤ Idea no. 2 - beautify the swimming pond, garden pool and terrace:
Glass splinters can also be used optimally around swimming ponds, garden pools and as terrace borders. An idea that will amaze visitors!
➤ Idea 3 - Create patterns or images:
Companies even have the opportunity to display their own company logo with glass splinters in the outdoor area. You can also create colorful motifs in your garden with the wide range of colors and thus create true works of art.
Put out glass splinters in the garden - short instructions
➤ Step 1 - Glass splintersbuy:
First of all, of course, it is about buying the right glass splinters. You must always clarify whether these are suitable for outdoor use, can withstand freezing temperatures and can be walked on. Furthermore, it should be tumbled glass splinters, the sharp edges of which have already broken off.
As for the colors, you will mainly find glass splinters in green, blue and brown. This is because these are a recycled product from the bottle industry. This also explains why red, yellow, violet, etc. glass splinters are often more expensive.
➤ Step 2 - Lay garden fleece:
If you want to beautify your garden with glass splinters, then this requires a little preparatory work. Before you spread the glass splinters, you should spread a garden fleece made of plastic on the surface that is as level as possible so that weeds cannot later grow between the glass splinters. Of course, you then have to cut out the garden fleece in the area of individual, already existing plants, for which a so-called cross cut is always recommended - carefully lift the fleece over the plants and then put it back on as tightly as possible.
If, on the other hand, you create the flower bed freshly, you should first spread out the fleece completely, then make a cross cut at the intended planting site and then plant the plant.
Hint:
If you lay several fleece webs, you must ensure that the individual webs overlap generously at the intersections.
➤ Step 3 - Apply bulk material evenly:
As soon as you have laid out the garden fleece around the plants, you can fill the surface with glass splinters. You should distribute these as widely as possible right from the start and not tilt them in one place.
You can then use a plastic rake to carefully distribute the glass splinters to create an even surface.
Proper care of glass splinters
High-quality, usually weather-resistant glass splinters can be cleaned from time to time with a water hose if necessary. You don't have to do this often, however, as there is rarely a layer of algae on the individual chunks. The reason for this is the non-porous surface of the glass. However, you should collect rubbish and autumn leaves that collect on the bed. This effective-looking garden decoration does not usually require any more care.
