When currants wilt, there can be many reasons for this and hobby gardeners must therefore monitor their bushes closely in order to be able to remedy the situation.
Currants have the property that they always like to trickle down when the pollination of the flowers is insufficient. Different varieties of currants also depend on pollination by bees. It is not uncommon in spring for the bees to simply not visit the blossom when the weather is bad, and if the fruit does not set, the blossoms fall off.
Frost and drought promote trickling
Frost or severe drought also promote trickling of the currants while they are in bloom. An observation of the shrubs often shows that the inflorescences within the shrub show a higher tendency to sprout than the outer inflorescences.
Here the shadow is the reason for the trickle down. Currants must always be well thinned out so that all flowers receive the same amount of sunlight. The balance of nutrient supply within the plant prevents or at least reduces trickling.
