Are you planning a garden party and looking for the right lighting? With these 5 tips you can set bright highlights.

In a survey, 71 percent said they enjoy going to and setting up a garden party. If you had asked me, I would have raised my finger too. Barbecuing, drinking May punch, sitting with friends and all of that in the open air. I can hardly imagine anything more beautiful.
Even if impromptu parties aren't always the worst, a perfect garden party has to be well organized. Who provides the food, which drinks have to be brought in, is there enough seating and, above all, which lamps or lights are suitable for the garden so that the party does not end up sitting in the dark?
Basic thoughts on lighting design
Basically one can assume that the lighting for a garden party should be rather indirect. That means bright lights aren't necessary. What is desired instead is a homely light character reminiscent of holidays. A warm beam of light that makes it possible to recognize everyone present without destroying the Mediterranean touch. However, no general answer can be given here, because the right light naturally depends on your local conditions. This also applies to your paths and any pond lighting.
Safety first!
Safety comes first at these points. On this page you will find more about outdoor lighting. For example, you will find tips there on how to put your façade in the right light or how to electrify the house entrance so that the keyhole can be easily found even in the middle of the night.
When it comes to lighting for a garden party, you certainly have other priorities, but the safety aspect should not be completely ignored either.
1. Torches for the garden party - not entirely harmless

Torches are the best lighting for everyone who loves an open fire and loves Indian romance. Depending on the material, they glow for about one to two hours. Even if you are outdoors, you should think before you buy whether torches are suitable for yourGarden party are the thing.
- How can the torch be attached to the ground?
- Is the distance to people large enough (safe)?
- Are there children at the party?
- Is there extinguishing material available in an emergency?
The joy of torches shouldn't be spoiled here, but safety comes first. There are different types of torches for the garden, such as wood, wax or the variant filled with oil.
2. Lanterns for the garden - warm light behind glass
For me, lanterns are part of every garden party and there is a reason for that. On the one hand I love the rustic character of the individual models, on the other hand they are not so sensitive to the weather. Should it start to rain, the lantern does not have to be taken to safety immediately. Thanks to the all-round protection provided by glass walls, the candle inside continues to burn even with a few drops of rain. The same applies if it gets a little windy. You don't have to be afraid that nearby objects will immediately catch fire. However, the lantern cannot withstand constant rain or strong winds!
3. The classics - fairy lights and lanterns
When it comes to creating a party atmosphere, fairy lights and lanterns are the perfect garden lighting par excellence. Unlike at Christmas time, when most households tend to prefer warm frosted glass light, it can be a little more colorful in the garden.
➤ LED Light Tube
The most space-saving variant are LED light tubes or LED strips. With it you can easily illuminate 10 meters and more without much effort. You can lay light hoses loosely over trees, hang them on garden fences or attach them to the tool shed. The strips can be easily attached to beams or roof structures. These all-rounders are now also available with an RGB color changer and including a remote control.
➤ Garland of lights with finca charm
A chain of lights where the lamps are in the shape of lightbulbs is my personal favourite. This type of lighting can be found on almost every restaurant terrace in southern Europe. In order for the colorful summer lights to be the eye-catcher in your garden, however, a power connection must be available. In addition, the garden lighting must not disturb the neighbors, you should think about that in advance.
➤ Lanterns - the lightness of summer
It's a feast for the eyes when hundreds of little tots parade through the streets with their lanterns every year on Saint Martin's Day. For light accentsTo set your garden party, your guests don't have to arrive with a lantern in their hands, although that would certainly be a nice idea. Lantern chains with candle holders inside are not so suitable for a garden party. The risk of the paper body catching fire is far too great. LED lanterns or the variant with solar-powered lights are better. The latter is of course perfect for anyone who has no or insufficient electricity in the garden.

Are you the type who values a personal touch at the garden party? Then be creative and make your own lighting. All you have to do is melt down a few leftover candles or wax and then pour them with the wick into a suitable container, such as small glasses (make sure that they are fireproof). Form a handle with craft wire and attach it to the glass - done! Alternatively, you can also fill the glasses with some water and then put floating candles in them.
Tip:
If you hang your Do it your Self candles in nearby trees, please make sure that leaves and twigs cannot catch fire.

We have now clarified how you can illuminate your garden party from above, from the side or from below. But what about atmospheric lights on the table? The latest trend are candle bags. These are placed on the table like a lantern and the tea light comes in there. The slightly transparent material gives off a beautiful light effect. When buying, however, make sure that it is flame-retardant paper. The advantage of candle bags is that they are very space-saving and can be used several times.
Among the lighting options for the garden party presented here, there should be something for every taste. If you have a much better idea then we'd really appreciate a comment.
