For reasons of space, many do without lush flowering hollyhocks. You can also easily keep the plant in pots.

Most important requirements: The pot must be big enough and you should choose a sunny spot.
Pull the hollyhocks yourself and put them in the tub
Of course you can buy hollyhocks in the garden center or in a nursery, but it is much nicer if you become active yourself and raise the plant from an early age.
Growing hollyhocks from seed really isn't difficult. For this you need collected, dry seeds - either from your own plants, from the neighboring garden or available in seed bags.
Step 1
Scatter the seeds in a seed pot with loose soil. The right time for this is in autumn. However, the mallow plants will not bloom until next year.
Step 2
Cover the seeds thinly with soil and keep slightly moist. The germination period is about two to three weeks. A temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a bright room is ideal for this.
Step 3
The plants will develop over the following weeks and months. If the seed tray gets too small, separate the seedlings.
Step 4
In spring, place the young hollyhocks in large tubs, then the mallow plants can move outdoors.
Tip: With a remarkable size of two meters, the pot must of course be of a suitable size so that the plant does not tip over later. A support aid for the trunk is also useful. Choose a pot that is at least 40 centimeters in diameter. You can put several plants in large pots, a combination of varieties with flowers of different sizes and different colors looks best.
Care tips: This is how hollyhocks thrive onbest
➜ Earth
The optimal soil in the bucket is loose and humic. Adding mulch keeps the soil loose.
➜ Water
Hollyhocks need water regularly. You should always keep the substrate moist. However, waterlogging must not form. So choose a bucket with a drainage hole.
➜ Fertilizer
During the flowering phase, fertilize every two weeks with liquid fertilizer for flowering plants:
➜ Location
Hollyhocks love sunny locations! The perfect stand is on a south-facing terrace or in front of the south wall of the house. If you place tubs with hollyhocks in the garden, make sure they are sheltered from the wind.
» By the way: Most hollyhocks are biennials. You can also overwinter the plants. To do this, cut back your hollyhocks before seed formation and place the pots in a bright, cool room over the winter. The plants will sprout again in spring.
