Garden party in bad weather - this is how grilling and co. still works

Don't count on the weather when planning a garden party. With a little preparation and clever ideas, your event will not fall through.
Pulling weeds, planting vegetables and harvesting fruit are tasks that make a hobby gardener happy. But the absolute highlight is probably when you can use your garden as a relaxation oasis after work is done. Spontaneous garden parties are therefore not uncommon and what could be nicer than throwing on the grill with friends and family and letting God be a good man. The problem in our beautiful country is that the weather unfortunately doesn't stick to our plans. If it suddenly starts to rain while the first sausages have turned golden brown, good advice is expensive. Usually the only option is to flee into the house and a brave grill master, armed with a rain poncho and umbrella, continues to take care of your physical well-being.
However, when larger events such as school enrollment, milestone birthdays or child baptisms are coming up, you shouldn't hope for nice weather. If you want to be on the safe side, you have to have a plan B so that the garden party doesn't literally fall through. I can't guarantee you 100% success with my tips either, but at least you're prepared if the weather forecast suddenly no longer predicts sunshine for "your big day".

Rain protection: This keeps guests and the grill dry

Rain is about the worst thing that can happen to you at a garden party. So it is important to keep the grill and guests dry. In the best case, your terrace has a roof, then the problem is already solved.

Awning

If not, it's worth buying a weatherproof awning. As I read at Steda, you should pay special attention to the material of the awning fabric used, so that raindrops roll off easily and you can sit comfortably underneath even in a heavy shower. For very sensitive souls you should have a few simple, thin rain capes ready. They don't cost more than one euro and are available from Tedi, among others.

Pavilion

The classica garden pavilion, which has proven itself over and over again. There are now countless models and variants, so it shouldn't be difficult for you to find the right pavilion for your purposes.

My tip: Don't wait until the day of the party to set up the pavilion, because this act sometimes takes some time.

The size naturally depends on the number of guests, so don't calculate too tightly so that each guest can sit comfortably. Roughly speaking, you need a pavilion of about 4 x 6 m for about 25 people. If you have a lot of guests but don't want to buy an XXL pavilion right away, you can also rent a suitable party tent on the Mietmeile portal.

Barbecue in the rain

How do you protect your grilled food in a rain shower? Sometimes a slightly larger parasol is enough, but beware of possible rising flames! It is better to buy a "weatherproof" grill right away. This means grill models with a "hood", i.e. a kettle grill with a lid, or a multifunctional BBQ smoker, which can then also be taken under the pavilion.

Defy wind and cold

Guests who are freezing become uncomfortable and spoil your mood. To prevent this from happening, you must organize an alternative if there is no sun.

Fire bowl or fire basket

When it's cool but not raining, a fire bowl or fire basket comes in handy. Be sure to get enough firewood in good time!

Terrace heater

Patio heaters are even better and usually warmer. Even if the things are called that, you can of course not only use the radiant heater on the terrace. The prerequisite is that your copy can be transported and has the appropriate roles. Of course, there are also simple variants that are powered by electricity, but they are only useful if there is a power connection nearby. In my opinion, patio heaters that run on gas are more optimal and if you look at the models from Smartmöbel, I am sure that your guests will not only be cozy and warm, but will also cast "envious" glances at the noble part.

Windscreen

Planning a perfect windbreak is quite difficult because you never know from which corner it will blow. But at least make sure that there is no draft in the seating area if you are sitting outside. With a bit of creativity, you can use an awning or other tarpaulin between twowindbreak trees. That doesn't withstand a hurricane, but a fresh breeze anyway. If you don't want the mobile variant, but you want permanent wind protection (also for later celebrations), then I recommend so-called privacy fences. The fence systems are available in almost any desired height and width and they not only keep out the wind, but also protect against prying eyes.
