With our ideas and tips, you can comfortably furnish and design a large terrace. There are no limits to your own creativity.
For many, the terrace is something like a second living room. Here we have breakfast with the family, relatives are invited to coffee together or we celebrate with friends late into the night. If you have a large terrace, you can count yourself lucky, because you are often envied for the generous space. But the many square meters can also become a problem, namely when you try to create cosiness.
While a small balcony can be transformed into a feel-good corner in just a few simple steps, furniture and flower pots are sometimes pushed back and forth on a large terrace without the desired visual harmony being achieved. However, with a little thought and a few tricks, it's not that difficult to create a cozy atmosphere on a large terrace.
Tip 1 - Choose the right seating options
The advantage of a large terrace is that you can really "let off steam" when it comes to garden furniture. While the furniture should not be too "chunky" in a small area, the seating can have a lounge character if there is enough space. For example, you can conjure up the living room character mentioned above with a set of rattan seating including comfortable upholstery. Garden furniture made of wood is also conceivable
My personal tip: Divide your large patio visually into two areas. In one half you set up a smaller seating area, in the other half a set of garden furniture is set up similar to that in the dining room - i.e. a large table plus matching chairs.
The practical thing about this variant is that you can offer guests space at any time and still have a small, comfortable seating lounge that you can enjoy for two at any time. A sun lounger or hanging chair can also be set up in this area, where you can then relax and enjoy your afternoon nap or a good book.
Tip 2 - Protection from sun and heat
You can't stay outside for long without sun protection - especially in midsummer.That's why a parasol is part of every seating group. There is a wide range on offer and ultimately it is your personal taste that decides. But to keep it cozy, the umbrella should match the rest of the terrace. Tip 3 - Cozy lighting
If you want to be cozy inside, set up candles or use indirect lighting. You don't do it much differently on the terrace. For example, built-in LED spotlights can be integrated directly into the patio floor. Many models work on solar and do not require a power connection. Wall lights also emit a cozy light. You are flexible with LED strips or fairy lights, lanterns or lanterns. Candles and lanterns not only provide cozy lighting on the table, the light also looks great between flower pots or on patio posts.
Tip 4 - plants and decoration
Seating furniture and sun protection have been selected, then comes the "fine touches". With the right potted plants and accessories, your terrace will be really cosy. With evergreen plants, such as boxwood, you have that garden feeling on the terrace all summer long, without a lot of maintenance. Advantage of Buxus sempervirens, it can be cut into decorative shapes. Color accents to the evergreen plants can be set with oleanders, hydrangeas or magnolias. Small pots with herbs can be added to the slightly larger potted plants.
Your terrace will be really cozy with an outdoor carpet, which does not necessarily have to be laid over the entire floor, but rather should set an accent to the seating furniture. Here, too, make sure that the carpet and seat upholstery match in color. And last but not least: Small decorative elements complete the cosiness on your large terrace.
