Lawns that are in the shade usually do not thrive well. It is best to sow shaded lawns here. Read here how this works and how the lawn is cared for.

Garden retailers offer special shady lawns
Lawn areas are usually laid out extensively around a wide variety of properties. However, the complete surface parts cannot always lie in the sunlight. Then they only get a little daylight and quickly become mossy. The garden trade has long since reacted to this problem and therefore offers a special shady lawn. These seed mixtures and the resulting lawns are all easy to care for, resistant to numerous diseases and largely prevent heavy weed growth or the lawn from becoming overgrown with moss too quickly.

Tip:Nevertheless, you should scarify shady lawns every spring. If there is heavy moss formation in the lawn, you even have to scarify twice a year - even in autumn.
Sowing and maintaining shady lawns
Sowing the Shade Lawn:
Shadow lawns are best sown in early spring in the same way as you sow conventional lawns. The advantage of early sowing is that the shady lawn can still catch as much daylight as possible. Among other things, also because deciduous trees in particular do not yet have their full foliage. However, the shady lawn is only suitable to a limited extent for the greening of e.g. areas under large trees, i.e. so-called full shade areas that do not receive any natural daylight.
Tip: In such cases you can plant special shade plants such as ivy

When sowing, you should always follow the instructions on the packaging of the respective manufacturer. After sowing, it is also important that you always keep the lawn moist, if necessary water it several times a day until a closed lawn has formed.
Maintain shaded lawn
The care of the shaded lawn differs only slightly fromconventional lawns. Nevertheless, we would like to mention the most important points that you should consider when caring for them.
Water:
Shaded lawn areas should only be watered minimally, even on hot summer days, because there is little or no sunshine.
Fertilize:
Shadow lawns should definitely be fertilized in spring and late summer so that they receive sufficient nutrients. This not only promotes its appearance (rich green), but also its he alth and resistance to diseases. Ideally, you should use a special lawn fertilizer in combination with a suitable weed killer. Appropriate products for this purpose (e.g. here) are offered in specialist garden shops.
Tip: Spread lime once a year (in spring), as this balances the acidity of the soil and further minimizes the formation of moss in the lawn.
Mowing lawn:
When mowing the lawn every 2 to 4 weeks, you must take into account that the cutting depth of the shady lawn is never less than about 6 to 8 centimetres. You should definitely avoid so-called deep cuts, which can be set on some models of lawn mower.
