The Deutzia is a very easy-care ornamental shrub. If you pay attention to a few things when planting, you will have a lot of fun with this hydrangea plant.

Deutzie - little botany
Anyone who is already familiar with hydrangea plants such as the deutzia knows that it stands out with its delicate flowers in light shades of colour. It is these that make the Deutzia so popular, because in late spring the flowers herald a warmer season and give the garden a romantic, but also fairytale look. The Deutzia, which originated in Japan and China and is also known as the Mayflower shrub, is now available in various subspecies and is considered a deciduous shrub that fits in almost every garden because of its medium stature. Because the shrubs also appear quite dense in summer, they can be used as privacy screens and as an alternative to the hedge. Many of the Deutzia species grow up to four meters high - but this can take a very long time.
The soft pink or violet flowers are popular, arranged in a star shape and almost reminiscent of cherry blossoms. These characteristics alone are often enough to attract gardeners to plant the Deutzia. But it is rather these properties that inspire lovers of the plant:
- Deutzien are very easy to care for and therefore also suitable for people without a green thumb.
- Deutzia are hardy and therefore do not have tospecial treatment to survive the winter.
- Deutzia don't get too big, but still offer a lot of privacy in summer and are therefore also suitable for tight gardens.
- In addition to the flower, Deutzia are also characterized by their attractive ornamental wood.
So what speaks for planting the Deutzia in the garden? Every gardener and plant lover has his own favorites, but the Deutzia ornamental plant is generally popular and a very safe choice due to its easy-care nature. So if you can't decide very easily which plant you want as a shrub in your garden, you can try the Deutzia, which will certainly be crowned with success.
Planting Deutzia - Hints
A real plus point is that Deutzia do not have many demands on their location - this makes planting and caring for a beginner a little easier. At the same time, there is no need to fear that the plant will die if the best soil is not available for it - Deutzia can tolerate different soils very well. The only thing Deutzia really need is a position in full sun. Because only with sufficient sunlight does the hydrangea plant manage to develop the popular flowers. If, on the other hand, it is in the shade, not only is growth restricted, but the flowers are only formed sparsely or not at all.
So you should avoid this in terms of location if you want to plant Deutzia:
- Near large trees that cast a lot of shade and therefore do not allow enough sunlight for the Deutzia.
- Shadow of the house, terrace or garage
- Bushes that cast shadows - such as high hedges
How to plant Deutzia correctly?
If you know the preferences of the handsome Deutzia, it is no longer too difficult to plant them professionally and hope for a successful growth of the plant in the garden. The best way to plant is as follows:
- Dig a sufficiently large hole in the ground that is larger than the root ball of the young Deutzia
- loosen the soil in and around the planting hole so that it is more permeable
- If you like, put some gravel in the planting hole and enrich the excavated soil with some compost to ensure nutrients for the plant
- Add humus-rich plant substrate to the soil, if necessary also some sand
- Plant carefully so as not to damage its roots
- with thearound the prepared soil and press lightly
- Water moderately, so the soil gets moist but not wet
- Planting is best done in spring so that the Deutzia have enough time to prepare for the winter
By the way, the selected location should also be well protected and not too cold. Large areas that can be quickly attacked by the wind and that offer no thermal protection are not tolerated very well by Deutzia. A sheltered location that can still offer sun is therefore ideal.
Plant Deutzie in the bucket
Planting Deutzia in a bucket outside is rather difficult. Nevertheless, this is also possible if the bucket provided is large enough and offers the shrub enough space to root out and grow. The bucket must also be placed in a suitable location and protected in winter, otherwise the plant will probably not survive in it. If you still want to plant the plant in a bucket, you should definitely pay attention to a nutrient-rich and well-drained substrate and not water too much in order to avoid waterlogging as much as possible. Especially in pots, this can happen very quickly if you proceed carelessly - and damage the Deutzia's roots.
