The rubber tree is robust and easy to care for - perfect for beginners. In addition, you can easily multiply it - even without cuttings.
Propagating a rubber tree from cuttings is very easy. However, this assumes that you already own a tree of the genus Ficus Elastica. But you don't have to put your project out of your head right now. Finally, you can also grow the rubber tree from seeds. If you only want to grow a new rubber tree, it is not worth resorting to seeds. However, if you want several plants in one go, sowing the rubber tree is ideal. You can easily grow several rubber trees for each room without having to wait for the cuttings to take root. As soon as the seedling forms leaves, the greening of your home begins with plants that are easy to care for and very robust.
Sowing rubber tree in flower pots
You can get the seeds for rubber trees in the garden store. These are ordinary seeds that you plant in the ground and will eventually grow into small Ficus Elasticae.
Basically, sowing is relatively easy. You need:
- small plastic flower pots
- Seeding soil with few nutrients
- clear plastic film
You can definitely use plastic bowls or special seed pots as flower pots. If you have any special bowls with lids (also called young plant bowls) left over from your balcony or garden plants, they are perfect for sowing.
Growing Rubber Trees from Seeds
Step 1: Fill the planting trays with soil
Put some nutrient-poor soil in the trays. Since the rubber tree does not need many nutrients and has to be repotted into the right plant pot after a short time anyway, you don't need to worry about special growing soil.
Step 2: Plant seeds
Then scatter the seeds in the soil and cover them with a thin layer of soil. Now you have to water the pots. However, make sure that there is no waterlogging.
Step 3: Cover the planters
In order for a good growth climate to form, you shouldnow stretch a transparent film over the pots. Make sure that air still gets to the ground, otherwise mold will form. Of course, if you can use small table greenhouses or the young plant trays mentioned above, you don't need this film.
Step 4: Transplant young plant
Within a few days you will see the rubber tree sprout. Then wait until the first leaves have formed. Now the pupil is strong enough that you can plant it in its own flower pot.
