Would you like to bring spring into your house or onto the balcony? Then plant daffodils in pots. This is really easy.

Choose the right pot
Daffodil bulbs planted deep in the garden are protected from the cold. If you want to put onions in a pot or flower box, the container must be big enough and, above all, deep enough. The bulbs should be planted at least five centimeters deep in the ground. We recommend pots with a diameter of 20 centimeters or more, so that you can plant several bulbs. The yellow flowers are simply the prettiest in a group!
Preparation in autumn
Prepare the flowering splendor for next spring in autumn. For this you need pots, normal potting soil and bulbs. You can plant daffodil bulbs in several “stages”:
• 1st layer: moist soil
• 2nd layer: onions
• 3rd layer: soil
• 4th layer: onions
• 5th layer: earth
• 6th layer: thin layer of sand
Until spring, the containers are best placed in a sheltered corner, covered with leaves or peat. The spaces between the bulbs should be filled with foliage. This protects the pots from frost and gives the onions good conditions for germinating. You do not need watering during the winter. Only when the stalks and leaves are showing do daffodils need water and occasionally fertilizer.
Planting early daffodils in pots
Prepared daffodil plants, which you can get cheaply everywhere in spring, grow faster and take up less space. Place the plants in loose potting soil. You do not need to consider a planting depth.
Daffodils like it cool and are on the balcony, theA beautiful eye-catcher on the terrace or in a decorative container on the front door. It should not be too warm in the room. Caution is therefore particularly advisable if you are still heating and the daffodil pots are on the window sill above the heater.
Care during the flowering phase
Keep the soil slightly moist at all times. To prevent waterlogging, the pots must have a drainage hole. Watering is particularly important when the heating air is dry, otherwise the plants will dry out quickly.
Daffodils that are brought forward do not need fertilizer. If you plant your own onions, an occasional dose of liquid fertilizer makes sense.
And after flowering?
Off to the garden or ensure bulbs and put them back in pots in the fall! You can plant faded daffodils in the garden straight away and they will sprout again next year. Otherwise, leave the leaves and stems in the pot until they turn yellow, come off easily and can be plucked off. Don't cut! Let the onions dry and store them in a container, loosely covered with soil, until the new planting season begins in autumn.
Summary:
- Put the onions in sufficiently large pots in autumn
- Keep pots covered with leaves outdoors
- Plant early onions in pots directly in spring
- Water flowering plants regularly
