The rosewood tree (jacaranda) catches the eye. The trumpet tree plants adorn the roadsides in their native South America and are a very special eye-catcher with their blue to violet panicle flowers. To ensure that our living rooms and conservatories become a welcome home for the bizarre exotic species, a few care instructions must be observed, which can be read below.
The rosewood tree as a houseplant
The jacaranda tree has quickly made a name for itself as an ornamental plant. Today, the plant can be found in almost all frost-free zones. Unfortunately, hobby gardeners in Germany have to limit themselves to keeping them in tubs and cultivating the palisander tree indoors. In summer, the plants on the balcony or terrace can provide exotic charm. The frost-sensitive plants always spend the winter indoors.
Why isn't my rosewood tree blooming?
Anyone who has seen photos or was able to convince themselves of the impressive blossoms of the trees during their holiday in the south will now wait anxiously and often ask themselves whether a care mistake could be behind the flowering laziness of the ornamental plants.
Unfortunately, indoor gardeners in Germany are mostly disappointed. Jacaranda trees only rarely flower when they are small. Only from a growth height of two meters do the chances of a blue-violet sea of flowers increase. If you give your plant enough space and have a spacious conservatory or high ceilings, then you can continue to hope for the attractive flowers. Otherwise, don't be disappointed and enjoy the delicate pinnate leaves.
Watering the Rosewood Tree Properly
The palisander tree is quite demanding when it comes to casting. It only needs to be watered when the surface of the substrate feels dry. The thumb test is helpful here. It is poured plentifully and at greater intervals. This is more digestible for the plant than just giving a splash of water every day.

The plant is preferably watered with rainwater that has been brought to room temperature. If rainwater is not available, you can use stagnant and softened tap water.
Tip: A small linen bag filled with peat, hung in the vessel, softens the water overnight.
If the rosewood tree is too dry, it responds with leaf fall. The dry air can also damage the exotic plant. Therefore, do not forget to regularly spray the plant with soft rainwater. Especially dry heating air damages the plant. In summer, the humidity in the room can also be increased by frequent airing. Placing humidifiers in the room is also beneficial.
Fertilizing the Rosewood Tree Properly
The plant has a fairly high nutrient requirement. Fertilize regularly, especially during the growing season between April and August. Add liquid fertilizer to the irrigation water at 14-day intervals. If the plant overwinters in the heated conservatory, it is also fertilized monthly and in a highly diluted concentration during the winter months.
Use a low-lime fertilizer if possible. A commercially available rhododendron fertilizer is very suitable. More and more hobby gardeners are using organic fertilizers. This not only protects the wallet, but also the environment. Compost can already be mixed in when planting.
Tip: It should be fully mature compost, otherwise the roots could be damaged by the rotting processes that have not yet been completed.
Horn shavings, bone meal or rock meal also offer a full substitute for commercially available industrial products.

What types of rosewood trees are there?
The rosewood tree belongs to the trumpet tree family. About 50 species have been described in this genus. All types of jacarandas grow in South America. Only Jacaranda mimosifolia is important for cultivation in a bucket or as a houseplant. Every now and then a species can be found, Jacaranda ovalifolia, which is characterized by oval leaves.

Recognize diseases and pests on rosewood trees
The greatest danger for the plant is the care mistakes of its owners. Otherwise, the exotic plants are extremely resistant to diseases and pests. Only spider mites or whiteflies occasionally occur.
Warning: Insect infestation is favored by low humidity.
If there is an infestation with spider mites, the edges of the leaves and the leaf axils appear to be covered with fine cobwebs. The pests can be seen particularly clearly if the plant is sprayed vigorously.
If the leaves lose their shape and colour, whiteflies can be the cause. The larvae and fully formed insects feed on the leaf sap. Often the whitefly stays on the underside of the leaves.
If the insect infestation is noticed in time, showering with a hard jet of water is quite effective. Affected plants can also be effectively treated with nettle solution or horsetail stock.
However, if you have neglected to check your plant regularly, you will probably have to resort to chemical means to destroy the pests and ultimately save the plant.
Remedy diseases caused by care mistakes
When watering the rosewood tree, it was not given the necessaryHandled delicately, or if the choice of location has failed, the plant will bare from below over time. If you notice this, act immediately and remove all shoot tips. The rosewood tree will then grow new shoots at the bottom.

The planter should be of sufficient size and depth for the jacaranda tree to take root. Terracotta plant pots ensure stability on windy days outdoors. There must be enough drainage holes for the irrigation water in the plant pot so that there is no waterlogging.
Substrate
The substrate should be as loose and permeable as possible. The irrigation water must not accumulate in the container. A good choice is rhododendron soil. Compost or horn shavings enhance the substrate. Calcareous soil is not tolerated.
