The garden was in top form in August. Before autumn slowly sets in from September, there is still a lot to do in terms of gardening in August.
There is still a lot to do
In August there is not so much to do in the garden. But you still have a few things to do. We have put together a few tasks for you here that you should complete in August. Here are our 8 tips:
- To keep the flowering shrubs in bloom for a long time, wilted flowers should be cut off regularly. Most perennials form new flowers again and again.
- Hedges should be trimmed now. But don't do this in the midday heat.
- It's also time for a slight pruning of lavender. The shoots are shortened by about 1/3. The big pruning only takes place in the spring.
- If you have large perennials in your border, now is the best time to divide them. Dig them up and divide them with a spade.
- If your peonies have grown too big, transplant them now. The plant should always divide the plants.
- Now is the time to plant steppe candles, lilies and evergreen shrubs. Don't forget to water or muddy the plants well.
- Do you have box trees in your garden and want to shape them? Then August is the best month for it.
- Water extra heavily this month if August is very dry. The plants will thank you with lush flowers.
