Even the beloved water lilies can be visited by pests. We would like to introduce you to three pests on water lilies.
Leaf beetle
Very often a leaf beetle appears that is yellow-brown in color and lays larvae on the leaves. These now feast on the leaves and damage them irreparably. But not only the leaves are eaten, these beetles also attack the flowers.
Water lily aphids
Another pest occurs in water lilies, especially in those specimens that are close to the shore and some of whose leaves or stems are outside the are located on the water surface, i.e. have a direct connection with the shore. Water lily aphids can settle there and suck the leaves. They also leave behind honeydew, which is soon colonized by sooty mold fungi.
Water-lily-tongue
A third member of the group is the water-lily-tongue or its larvae, which also tamper with the leaves and eat them out in an oval shape.
Fight pests
Since you are not allowed to use pesticides in the pond, there is only one option: spray the pests off with a strong jet of water or clean them the leaves by hand. Check your water lilies regularly for pest infestation.
