Anyone who has apple trees and cherry trees in their garden should remember to cut them regularly. A cut should be made at least once a year, always in July.
Fruit grows better
For cherries this is after the harvest, for apples after the blossom. This prevents the trees from bare. It also promotes the growth of fruit and prevents the trees from being more susceptible to diseases.
Always at the base
Thinning out the crown of the tree allows more light to reach the other branches, which is also an advantage. When cutting, particularly long branches are cut off, always at the base of a fresh side shoot. You can tell by the soft twigs. Branches that grow into the treetop should also be removed.
Caution with young trees
If the tree is still young and was bought last year, then you should not unpack the scissors just yet. The reason is not that the trees could be harmed, but that they would grow too fast.
