Slugs are a big nuisance in many gardens. No matter how animal-friendly you are, if the salad is just a holey something, then the best friend quickly becomes the enemy.
Many hobby gardeners then reach for slug pellets and other poisons out of frustration. The sweet smell attracts the snails, which eat the poison and die. You've actually won the fight now. If only the garden didn't look like a battlefield now. In addition, the poison is also toxic to dogs and cats.
