Gardening is suspended in winter. Many believe that this will continue into April. Because usually only then do the plants begin to sprout and it drives you out again.
Doing the first gardening work in February
When it's cold outside, you don't feel like doing anything in the garden yourself. But you shouldn't wait until April. You can even do the first gardening work as early as February. If you do that, you take precautions, then it will be easier for you and you will have more time in the spring for other work or simply to enjoy the garden. So go get some fresh air now and do some important chores in the garden. This includes, for example, cutting back the perennials.
Pruning perennials
So you should become active if you have perennials left over the winter. Many do this because some plants still look pretty even when they have dried up. Yarrow, echinacea or sedum are such plants. But these must now be cut off. About a hand's breadth above the ground. This is because these plants grow again from below and have already grown a bit since March. The risk of accidentally cutting off these young shoots is very high.
